I have been researching this soldier as part of a larger project. Do you happen to know when and where he died, and where he is buried?

BTW, There is a question about Private Harris’ relationship to Buxton Harris. From what I have been able to gather, there were two by the name of Nathan J. Harris, and both had sons named Newton. Both Newtons were born in 1862, Buxton’s grandson in KY, and Private Harris’ son in AR.

This is brought to light in the 1880 census. The son of Buxton, Nathan J., appears in the Muhlenberg, KY, census, along with his son, “New (b. 1862 in KY). In the same year, Newton Harris, age 18 (b. 1862 in AR), appears in the household of his uncle, Benjamin Barton, in Hempstead Co., AR. According to earlier records, Benjamin Barton was the brother of Mary J. Barton, wife of Private Nathan J. Harris.

Buxton’s son was married to a Sarah B, b. 1840 in KY.

I appreciate any information you can post concerning the passing of Private Harris. Thanks.
