Byran, thanks to you and Johnny reb for responding. William Sain was in Desha County and captured by Union forces in April or May 1864. He was serving under Reginald H Thompson, commanding Confederate forces in Desha County at the time. If you recall, Thompson was among a group of Desha County Militia who became Co K, 7th Kentucky. Then during the consolidation in April,62, became Co E, 13th Ark. Flash forward to August 63, during the re-organazation of the AOT,Thompson along with RA Duncan of the 13th and JE Josey and CH Carlton of the 15th sent a letter to Davis proposing to return to the Helena area and recruit and form companies for the purpose of obstructing navagation of the Mississippi. By spring 1864 Thompson was in Desha County commanding a company under orders of Kirby Smith. Thompson sent a letter to Lt-Commander Prichett, commanding Union forces on Big Island concerning a prisoner exchange including one William Sain.Exchange did not take place as Sain ended up at Camp Chase. After the war Sain returned to Desha Co and engaged in a general store at the mouth of Cypress Creek. Thompson and company finished the war with Carlton's Cavalry.
Have been trying for some time to constuct a story concerning these men and as you know, information gets real short in the Trans-Mississppi, especially after "Old Paps" raid into Missouri. But I ain't give up.
