James B. Blasingame enlisted in Co. E, 4th Battalion Arkansas Infantry, at Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 7, 1861, for twelve months; age 23. He was promoted to corporal, and was discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability at Columbus, Kentucky, on January 10, 1862. Later in the war, he appears on a roster of the 47th Arkansas Mounted Infantry, but the records of this regiment are very fragmentary, and there's no indication of date of enlistment, or even what company he was in. This regiment was in service from the summer of 1864 to the end of the war.

He applied for a Confederate pension from Pulaski County in 1901, and his widow Mrs. Tabitha Blasingame applied for a pension in 1911. The pension file number is 10369, approved August 27, 1901 (veteran) and August 11, 1911 (widow).

He is interred in Tomberlin Cemetery in Lonoke County (1837-1910).
