Re: "Granny does your dog bite" at Shiloh....
Hindman was supposed to be in command of the brigade that Shaver lead at Shiloh. Why Shaver and not Hindman, was leading the brigade I have not been able to properly assess. It could have been because Hindman was wounded early in the action when his horse was hit by a Union artillery shell.
In any case I don't know why the Fiddler play "Granny does your Dog bite". Whether it was by Shaver's order, or just the fiddler's personal choice. It would seem to me, in my opinion, that Shaver may have had his hands too full with other details at the time to recommend to the fiddler a choice of tunes to play.
