Thomas and Lafayette Brooks served in Company B, First Arkansas Cavalry, (US Volunteers) from Washington Co., AR. My great great grandfather was their brother, John Brooks. John lived in Overton Co., TN in 1860 and I've been unable to find out if he served in the war. I suspect John Brooks was Union since he lived near his brothers by the 1870 Washington Co., AR census, he died near Elkins, AR in 1906. There was another John Brooks in Washington Co., AR prior to 1860 who is not from the same BROOKS line.

Is there a message board similar to this that covers TN? I would appreciate any other research suggestions you might have. My only experience has been with CSA to date.
