Stritcly my opinion, but I believe this man was captured by Union forces and did some serious time in the Yankee Prison in
Little Rock. His release date and being at Little Rock tells me that. The fact that he lived was a credit to his good state of health
as they fell like flies in that place.
Pope County was under the control of the the 2nd Arkansas Union Cav. unless I am wrong.
I would suggest that anyone who might want to follow up on this check a book called, The Rebel's Hell written in the mid-90's
by a lady named Kay, who married and left Arkansas for Texas.
It is taken from records in the National Archives and the best place to lay your hands on that is to get an inter-library loan.
