Bryan,

James Jackson Patterson is an interesting puzzle. So far I have found no mention of him in the National Parks Soldiers and Sailors System database, Gerde's webpages of Arkansas muster rolls, nor Merrill Pence's regimental history of Dawson's 19th Arkansas Infantry. I have located Alex Bishop in Co "E", of Dawson's Infantry and Co "K" of Hardy's. But, no Patterson's.

This does not mean that the information is incorrect. It would seem that he will be another one of those whose records "fell threw the cracks". Certainly he follows the pattern of being enlisted in Sevier Co. Arkansas in Dawson's 19th Arkansas and maybe being one of those sick at Camp White Sulphur Springs, and assigned to the 24th Arkansas, then Dawson-Hardy's Regiment which was assigned in May of 1863 to Frost Missouri Brigade at Pine Bluff, which Mitchell's 8th Missouri Infantry was a part of. Much like Pvt. Benton Musgraves missing records were handled.

But, I have not found anything on James Patterson that would confirm this. In these cases family records are proving to be more accurate than "official records", which were lost in the various shuffles. In these cases the Pension applivation, if approved, was done so on the basis of veterans and comrades sworen statements.
