Janie, neither Reece S. nor James S. Harrison served in the Civil War, both men being too old. I have copies of some letters written by soldiers from Van Buren County during the war. Although none of them mention Reece Harrison, they do mention other elderly men who were murdered by bushwhackers who styled themselves as "Home Guards." Things were so bad that when Colonel Witt's 10th Arkansas Mounted Infantry surrendered at the end of the war, they requested permission to keep their weapons to protect their families from the bushwhackers that infested Van Buren County.
