Brian, thanks for the information. That expains why I have never been able to find Zilman on a roster. I was very surprised when I ran across his name in the diary. He likely died in service, as following 1863 he no longer shows up in any tax or property records in Van Buren County. If so, it means that my gggrandfather lost 5 of his six sons to the war effort. Do know if the diary is available for viewing at the Arkansas History Commission. Thanks again.
