The Herron's joined Captain E.N. Floyd's company in Independence County. This company would be designated Company H, 8th Infantry Division. After arriving at Pittman's Ferry, according to letters written by Assistant Surgeon L.A. Dickson, the 8th suffered quite a bit of sickness, but no measles until late in September when the regiment was hit hard. Floyd's company was struck the worst at this point, Dickson writing they had 25 cases of measles. These men were left at Pocahontas when the 8th left for Bowling Green on the 26th of September. I would say it is probable one of these was Marcus Herron.
