Actually they were attractively constructed two-piece brass buttons depicting the same goddess of liberty as on the Arkansas state seal buttons in the center surrounded by fourteen stars on the sides. The word "CADET" is in a ribbon at the top. Around the outer edge is the motto "OUR GOD - OUR COUNTRY - OUR HONOR". A.M.I. is at the bottom of the button.

It should be noted that some button experts do not believe these to be Arkansas Military Institute buttons since none have been found at the school location. While a number of nonexcavated examples exist only two have ever been excavated as mentioned in my previous post.

Unfortunately there is little written documentation about the school. Most of what we do know comes from period newspaper accounts. I can't even find a plat of Tulip probably because the town was never incorporated.
