Hello. I have been in touch in recent years with a dear little lady from the area. According to what
I was told, Dobbins lived a longer than what his family claimed.
He became a Catholic so he could purchase property in that new country,etc. It would appear
that his wife hated the place and perhaps the man he had become and returned to the states
which was like 1869 or earlier. Dobbins had gone into a part that was not being settled by the
really White English speaking people, if I remember correctly.
I got the lady's contact information from a CSA site out of Brazil. I did try writing to whomever
she suggested and never got a response.
The reason she was willing to help was that she was a descendant of some Baptist missionairies
from Arkansas, I believe from the Nashville area. She and her husband had followed the same work
and worked with the poor. She was very proud of her Southern heritage.
If you can go back far enough in the postings here at this site, you may discover the talk of the times.
It was about four of five years ago, I think, but it could have been even earlier.
I found it quite interesting. She was way up in years and so she may have already passed on.
My ancestor was 1st Lt. Fielding Price with the 1st Arkansas Cav. who died in the Yankee Prison
in Little Rock so I was interested in the commanding officer.
