Johnston family soldiers

My wife has three ancestors that severed for Arkansas in the civil war. One (Lewis B. Johnston) has been well researched and is known to be a Lt. in the 38th Infantry, Co. K. The other two are only known to have "gone to posts west of the Mississippi." Their names are James Franklin Johnston and William Perry Green Johnston.

First of all, can anyone recommend a good place to start with finding out more info on the 38th?

Secondly, can anyone help with finding more info about the two other Johnston's? I have tried the NPS CWSS site, but there are so many Johnston's with the initials J or W that I can't nail down which ones belong to my wife's tree.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

John
