Re: Jeremiah Earnest - executed 18 March 1864

Olwyn, I'm not sure about that. You might want to check NARA's Record Group 153, Records of the Office of the Judge Advocate-General, Court-Martial Case Files, 1809-1938, File LL1746, Proceedings of a Military Commission convened at Little Rock, Arkansas. According to the information I have, Miller's execution in March 1864 is covered at pages 81-82, and Earnest's execution in November 1864 is covered at pages 89-90.

I must state, however, that I have not personally seen the document referred to. A synopsis was sent to me several years by another researcher. You might want to verify that the researcher didn't make a transcription error.

Other documents cited by this researcher were, from Record Group 393, Citizen Prisoners held in U.S. Military Prison at Little Rock, Arkansas, Book 409, and Confederate Prisoners of War held in U.S. Military Prison at Little Rock, Arkansas, Book 408, Files E1626 and E1627, V volumes, Records of the Provost Marshal Office, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Also, according to the synopsis sent to me, Jeremiah Earnest was referred to as "Captain" Earnest at his trial.
