Re: Arkansas Post/paroled soldiers?

Additionally to support my other reply lets not forget the Crawford's Batt. 19th and 24th Arkansas Inf. Those men of who were not captured at Arkansas Post were reoragnized back at Pine Bluff under Col Dawson and Lt Col Hardy to await the return of their comrades in northern prisons when they were exchange. We know that these regiments were not reunited and hence we have the formation of Hardy's Regiment also known as the 19th/24th Arkansas Infantry in Trans Miss, as well as having the 19th/24th Arkansas in the AoT.

The authorities in Arkansas were EXPECTING those regiments to be return upon their exchange. No such "holding Regiment" was formed that I have found for the Texas Troops that had excaped Arkansas Post. Those Texas troops were simply combined in Texas regiments that were still in Arkansas. This I believe goes back to tthe fact that Garland's Texas Brigade had already recieved orders to transfer east whenever it could be spared. Where as Col. Dunnington's Arkansas Brigade had no such orders for transfer. But those men would fulfill the previous levy of troops that had been imposed along with Garland's Brigade.
