When the war started, Thomas A. Carr was living with his parents, James P. and Mary Carr, in Franklin Township of Saline County. Thomas and his siblings were born in Alabama, except the youngest who was born in Arkansas; his parents were born in Tennessee. Thomas A. was the only son of military age in the household, born c1845.
