Here is another possibility that I have not seen in the posts... He could have very well been wounded in OCT and depending on where he was recouping, may have been Dec before he was captured. Lots of folks would be taken care of in private homes and if wounded in the hip, I bet he was not able to travel. As stated, the 2nd Cav was not in Missouri that late and would have been down in sothern Arkansas with the rest of that brigade. This, in my opinion, makes the most sense.
