Re: Merry Christmas to Jim Martin and all the rest

That is a very kind thing to say and I do appreciate the kind words.
I simply know that I grew up hearing stories of the "War Between the States."
Those were my nursery stories and had happened to real people some of
whom I knew or was related to.
I was hooked on all of this by the time I was six years old.
I never will forget that this little boy who was in my class was very
interested in all American history. His mother told me, 'I cannot believe he is
so interested in history since we are not.' I never said a word, but I do believe
that an interested adult helps to foster an interested child.
Now that I have retired after 40 years in public education, if I go to the high
school to sub, the kids love to get me to talk about history, of all things,
and it does not matter what class we are in. They are just as likely to be
working away on math and discussing history with me as not.
Believe it or not, my 21 year old daughter is interested, probably
more so than I was at that age.
It is true, this is the first site I read every day and the last one I check before bed.
It has meant a lot to me through my computer years.
I truly enjoy this site and I wanted to let you know how much I do appreciate it.
Thank you!
