Doug, in most cases the scenario that Doyle laid out seems to hold true; however, the 3rd Arkansas situation was different. In the aftermath of the battle, the regimental band was detailed as litter bearers and nurses. A great many of the soldiers were wounded so severely that they could not be safely moved, so the surgical staff and many of the detailed band members were left behind to attend to the wounded, and thus were captured, along with their patients.
