Bryan, I knew that supernumerials (Band members, Drummers and Fifers) were normally assigned to such duties as litter bearers. I was not aware that the 3rd Arkansas Band had been detailed to duty in the field hospital itself and remained on that field after Lee's withdrawal.

This is the reason serious consideration should be given by some of our noted authors on this board that a revised regimental history of the 3rd Arkansas Infantry needs to be written. Mr. Collier Book "They'll Do to Tie To" is an excellant work for its time. But so much more information has come forward over the years that could flesh out the bare bones of Mr. Colliers work an make even better regimental history.
