Bryan,

Can you tell me if you have ever ran across anything that details why Crawford left this battalion (Crawford's BN)and went on later to raise the cavalry regiment? I have often wondered why he "raised" this battalion, it was given his name, and then he did not stay with it. I know that a large number of Saline County men under the newly released (former Lt Col, now Capt) Mark Miller of the 11th Arkansas had organized into a cavlary company that would become Company B of Crawford's regiment. They were in existence possibly late 1862 but for sure in 1863. I know in Crawford's letters, he mentions on his foray into north Arkansas in 1863 prior to the official organization of his 10th/1st Ark Cavalry, how he has all these conscripts in his units that desert except for Miller's Company. Just curious if you have ran across info that details any of this time period. I guess Miller's Company was operating as an independent force and Crawford must have had some form of dispensation to have this "regiment" in north Arkansas.
