July 11- Hindman to Gen Rust-
In the reorganization now being effected, General Hindman intends that each brigade shall consist of three regiments of Infy one battery of artillery and one sqdrn of cavalry converting the excess of cavalry above this allotment to infantry...
...to give you a full understanding of what is intended, I am thinking of forming still another Arkansas brigade to be composed of Grinstead’s regiment, Dawson’s regiment, and the various loose companies in south Arkansas.
July 12- Special Order #31 Army of the S.W. –
Col Robt Shaver is assigned to the command of the brigade to be composed of Col Grinstead’s Arkansas regiment, Dawson’s Arkansas Regiment and an additional regiment to be composed of the co's under command of Col Whittington, the surplus co's with Col Dawson and other companies in Col Grinstead's and Gen Roan’s district.
July 18-Col Grinstead cmdg. SW Arkansas
The extra companies of Dawson’s regiment and the extra companies raised by you will be formed into a regiment, and in case there are not enough of them, other companies will be taken from other districts.
This however will be settled by Col Shaver whom you will report to at Pine Bluff or Gen Roan if he has arrived
July 19- Hindman to Col Shaver -suspending raising companies in Roan’s district

VIII Brig Gen Roan is assigned to the command of the troops at Camp White Sulphur and will establish his hdqrs. there
IX the following arrangement of the troops at Camp White Sulphur is announced:
