I would say that you would have to compile the list and then run each man's name in the CSR's, as well as the Civil WAr Soldier and Sailor's website and the Gerdes site search engine, as well as pension records and COnf vet 1911 census just to name a few. Then you might be able to get a pretty good picture. I have done that pretty much with males in Saline County in 1860 and have identified 1197 men/boys who served mainly CS but some US as well. I do not have any records of Home Guards to add to it but I know they are there as I have a few that I did find and I know the units existed. It is time consuming to say the least but it is the best model you can build to try and see who served. The next question to look at is why did some serve and why did the others not serve?
