Ok, here is a whole bunch of conjecture. The Army of Tennessee attempted unsuccessfully to cross the river at Decatur from October 26-29, taking about 450 casualties, most of whom were captured. Most of the engaged were from Cheatham's division, but Pvt. Jimmerson Moore of K Company, 8th Arkansas was captured on the 28th indicating at least a portion of Cleburne's division was engaged. After failing to force a crossing, Hood then moved to Tuscumbia. It is possible Cabe was wounded at Decatur and died later at Tuscumbia.

Now to cloud the issue is this entry for Company I, 8th Arkansas: CLASBY, J.C. Pvt Enl 8 Dec 1861 at Pocahontas, AR. Died at Toscumbia, AL 20 Apr 1862. This opens up a whole new can of worms involving the 8th Arkansas' consolidations and their screwed up rosters. I'll need to do some further research when I get time. I believe the 7th Battalion was stationed at Tuscumbia for some time before being ordered to Corinth prior to Shiloh. This leads to the more likely scenario of him dying of disease in 1862 long before the 7th Battalion ever saw combat.
