He enlisted in Co. D, 2nd Arkansas Infantry, U.S. Volunteers, at Warren, Arkansas (the Warren in Johnson County, not the Warren in Bradley County), on September 2, 1863; age 31, born in Rutherford County, Tennessee; was mustered into service as a sergeant at Fort Smith, Arkansas, on December 7, 1863, for three years; was promoted to first sergeant on July 9, 1864; was mustered out of service with his regiment at Clarksville, Arkansas, on August 8, 1865.
U.S. veterans pension index states that he died in Tennessee on September 6, 1889, and that his widow applied for a pension later that year.
