Re: 3rd Louisiana Regiment

Pvt. S. N. Worley was later captured and paroled with his regiment at Vicksburg, when that city fell on July 4, 1863. He was declared exchanged on December 20, 1863, at the parole camp at Enterprise, Mississippi. Since he was on the east side of the Mississippi, and most of the regiment was on the west side, he was transferred to the 22nd Consolidated Louisiana Regiment on February 29, 1864. The last report I have of him is from a company muster roll for the period ended October 31, 1864, when he was reported as absent sick in hospital. As far as I know, he survived the war.

Assistant Surgeon W. A. Moss and the hospital attendants took care of their wounded -- Moss under his personal parole, the privates as (technically) prisoners -- until early October. The attendants were released on parole at Corinth in mid-October, without having to go to a prisoner of war camp. I don't have the date on which Assistant Surgeon Moss was released from his personal parole. He was still listed as "absent on detached duty, attending the wounded at Iuka," as late as February 28, 1863.
