Another question to an expert about Polk County

Bryan,

I hope you are doing well.

My ggg-grandfather, Dave Holton Howell, was a judge for Polk County, AR from 1862-1864. In his position as a county judge, what would you expect to find in any files that might be held by the county for this period? Also, were civilian employees of the Confederate or state governments during the Civil War considered for pensions of other benefits in their old age?

David Holton Howell's son, Isaac Peter Howell was a member of the 4th Arkansas Infantry, but did no go East of the Mississippi, perhaps because he was under eighteen (18). He did end up serving with the 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Adair) end the Indian Territory.

Jim
