Great Quote

I'm taking a short break from research and reading Warren Lee Goss' 1908 "Recollections of a Private." Goss served in a Massachusetts regiment in the Army of the Potomac. His regiment was positioned near the Salient during Pickett's Charge on the third day at Gettysburg. He wrote a thrilling first-person account of the charge, with much praise for the ragged veterans of the Army of Northern Virginia. Here's a quote that stood out --

"The expressions of admiration for the pluck displayed in the attack on our lines by the barefooted soldiers in tattered gray were very common. There was a thrill of pride that these brave men were, after all, Americans."
