- Moved to Adams County, Indiana. Evidently some who moved to Indiana went back to Ohio to enlist in the Civil War, but it's unknown if Peter did this.
- Died November 13 or 15, 1864
- A notation from an old history record: "Peter Stauffer was in the Civil War and was taken as a prisoner by the Southern soldiers to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where he died."
- Another old notation says "He became ill with dysentery and was taken to the hospital August 20, 1864, where he died on November 13 at the age of thirty-two years."
