The rolls of Co. E, 1st Arkansas Infantry, U.S. Volunteers, include a James C. Cox, who enlisted at Fayetteville, Arkansas, on March 1, 1863. The company descriptive roll states that he was a farmer, age 18, born in Osage County, Missouri, eyes hazel, hair light, complexion fair, height 5’8”. He applied for a U.S. veteran's pension in 1891; and his widow applied in 1917.
