36th Arkansas color bearer at Helena

Hello,

I may have found this on this board but cannot recall. At any rate, I need to find the citation for the actions of 36th Arkansas color bearer (later ensign) Jospeh D. Garland and his actions in the Battle of Helena.

I have an account, attributed to Col. Dandridge McRae as being this:

"Advanced his regimental colors to the front and maintained his position through the assault, his colors being torn to pieces."

The note I have states that it came from McRae's CSR files (Roll 227) but in checking that online I cannot find it there. It is also not mentioned on Garland's ensign letter.

Can anyone let me know wherer this does come from - CSRs, or some other soruce?

Thanks very much for any help.

Greg Biggs
