Mike according to vol.3 of Frederick Tood, American Military Equipage 1851-1872, he say "Arkansas Union regiments were furnished with U.S. Army clothing, insignia, arms, and accounterments of a decidedly mixed variety. No record has been found of the colors they carried, but it can be assumed these were of the regulation pattern." There is a picture of a 1st Arkansas Union Cavalry trooper (a drawing on page 650 of the way they would have looked and carrying a Starr carbine.) I know they carried Starr carbines, I owned one that was marked coD 1st Ark and have seen many others that were marked with other company letters. R.D.
