The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Lee and Grant exhibition

Hopefully, this isn't too out of line, but those of you in central Arkansas (or those not too far away for a day trip) should be aware that a nationally recognized exhibit "Lee and Grant" will be opening to the public on Nov 13, 2009 and running through Jan 9, 2010, at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. This exhibit was most recently in Texas, and Little Rock is one of only a handful of cities that it is touring. Admission is free.

There are some other ticketed events that go to support the MacArthur Museum, including a face-to-face meeting and a moderated "debate" between the Generals, as portrayed by a pair of expert re-enactors, the evening before the exhibit opening (Nov 12). You can the MacArthur Museum at 501-376-4602 for details.

The fellow playing Gen. Lee (Al Stone) will also appear at the Old State House Museum on Nov 11 for a presentation on "The Dilemma of General Lee" (discussing the inner conflict of Lincoln's offering him command of Federal troops vs. Lee's loyalty to Virginia). It is also free, but you need to make reservations. Call the Old State House Museum at 501-324-8663.

I have no personal financial interests in these events, but am a long-time supporter of both museums.
