There is a connection between the Winton family and Crittenden family (Cherokee)in Polk County -- but I can't recall the specifics right now. Moses Crittenden was in the 13th Kansas Inf in 1864 for a few months (I assume he wasn't a "volunteer") but deserted into the Cherokee Nation. After the war, he and his wife Margarett Howell (married in Dallas 1863) moved to the Cherokee Nation.
