Albert Pike - CSA

Where was Albert Pike in October 1862? The 1850 and 1860 census has him in Little Rock. Did he bury gold coins in the Albert Pike area Montgomery County, AR and carve symbols carved into trees? Is this folklore fact or fiction?

Pike, wrote on Feb. 25 1862 "I had in charge a large amount of coin and other moneys for the different Indian tribes, and found delegations of the Osages, Comanche, and Reserve Indians awaiting me, and the disposition of the moneys left unexpectedly in my hands." "The Choctaws, Chickasaws, and Creeks refused to march until they were paid off, and as by their treaties with us"

General Albert Pike, a native of the north, an a southern lawyer, commandeered parts of two Confederate Cherokee Indians regiments, about 700 men, saw action on March 7, 1862 Sugar Creek Battle where the infamous incident of scalping occurred. His unit in disarray was defeated in a counterattack. Pike was charged with mishandling of money and material and his arrest was ordered. Facing arrest, Pike escaped into the hills of Arkansas. He resigned from the army in 12 July 1862 and kept a low profile the rest of the war. Charges were later found to be lacking in evidence. He was arrested on November 3 and his resignation was accepted on November 11 and he was allowed to return to Arkansas.
