I've completed a book length manuscript with the working title of "Civil War Animal Heroes: Mascots and War Horses." I have tentatively selected a publisher and am tying up loose ends. In particular, I've heard that one of the Arkansas had a wild cat as a pet or mascot at Shiloh/Pittsburg Landing. Can anyone verify this and tell me the regiment? I've also heard that a Louisiana regiment had a pelican. Any information on that as well? Thanks.
