Doc and his men had a fondess for the Wattensaw Bayou area, they felt safe there and camped the area much of the time. The duel I spoke of was fought at the Wattensaw Bayou bridge. Oh yes I made a mistake the shot fired by Lieut. Whitisant of the Fourth Kansas mounted Inf. at Doc struck his 44 cal. colt pistol shattering the grip and knocking it from his grasp and blooding up Doc's hand. The ball or pieces there of may have still passed through Doc's coat. Doc's shot passed clean through Whitisant hat. Hwy 11 north of I-40 crosses Wattensaw Bayou a few miles up on its way to Des Arc, but the civil war road is I believe a couple of miles east of Hwy 11. Find the civil war road bridge on Wattensaw and you have the Duel's location. Doc could be buried in this general area. I've found no cemetery in this area yet, but this is a wild and wooley area. This is only a few miles north of DeValls Bluff and a couple of miles north of the I-40 rest area.
