Hi, Re: Relatives from southeast Arkansas and the Jordan Plantation in the Civil War--the people we met in St. Louis Mayfair Hotel for dinner were Edward Crosset Gates who married Frances Elizabeth Jordan (my father's cousin) and their daughter Betty Gates who contributed the Jordan genealogy to The Family Tree Maker which I have (I met Betty). They were on the way to Columbia, Mo. Stephens College the same year I went to Columbia, Mo. at the Univ. of Missouri., 1947. They were originally from Arkansas. but had moved to Montgomery, Alabama at the time I met them. He was an electrical engineer Pudget Sound Power and Light but they returned to Arkansas. Re: Uncle Clyde Alison Sykes - In 1949, we (my mother and Harry Wimmer and I from Univ. of Mo. ) made a trip to Millburn, New Jersey to meet the Wimmers and Uncle Clyde Sykes took us all around New York starting with the Aquaduct Race Track, and to the Waldorf Astoria Starlight Roof for dinner, among others the Champs Elyssey and an Italian Restaurant. My highschool graduation had a party at the Starlight Roof in St. Louis at the Chase-Park Plaza Hotel. My father's Aunt Elizabeth Jordan was a Dean of Women at the University of Oklahoma who also visted in St. Louis from Europe brought back a Delft vase from Holland. Did their genealogy in Europe, also was doing research for a book on Edgar Alan Poe in all the "important libraries in Europe" . There was a movie made in Crossett, Florida where we live now with all the bayous. I have the book "War Along the Bayous" which mentions the "Jordan's Plantation" and the "Jordan's Ferry" written by Willaim Riley Brooksher. Thanks , Kathryn
