Alexander Gordon

Sometime during Reconstruction, Alexander Gordon was living in Franklin, Calhoun County, which, at the time was about 2 miles east of Hampton, where the Post Office was located. From family accounts, Alexander Gordon was sitting on his front porch when he saw carpetbaggers coming up the road. He threw his money under the porch. The carpetbaggers tried to shake him down, and when he said he had no money, and they found no money on him, they shot him. He survived the gun shot.

Can someone indicate where I might find a newspaper rendering of this event, or some public record? The Gordon family would appreciate having complete details of this event.

Thanks.

Larry Gordon
