Did you ever find where your man was?
If per chance this man was treated like a normal person of the times,
he was buried possibly by his wife if they had children together.
He was also probably placed in an unmarked grave as there was no money for
much else and especially since this was only five years after the war ended.
As he could have had a marker, that does not necessarily mean he received one.
Not much encouragement I know, but money at that time went for the living.
