Private Brown was born about 1836 in South Carolina, son of Tarlton and Catherine Brown. He married 22 Dec 1859 to Sarah Maloy.Malloy, and they appear in the 1860 Census for Walker Creek TWP, Lafayette County, Arkansas. Joseph enlisted 22 May 1862 at Lewisville, Lafayette County, and was present through the last recorded muster on 29 Feb 1864.
