Sam Corley's cavalry like most other Cavalry in Arkansas from May 1862 until October 1862 seemed to be everywhere. I don't know how accurate these reports are. It would seem that "Orders" in the O.R.s' would be fairly accurate but during that particular period of time subterfuge was the name of the game to keep the federals in Helena off guards as to the actual strenght of the Confederates opposing them. I have found that Col. Charles Carrol's 1st Arkansas Cavalry at Fort Smith and Dardenelle has a battalion of 5 companies that were in Pine Bluff operating against Curtis on the White River.

In Corley's case I believe that they were recruited in Phillips County and went north and then west to the Indian Territories before being a part of the general recall of Arkansas Troops to protect their homes and rebuild the Trans-Mississippi Army in the summer of '62, after Van Dorn stripped the states of all available forces. Corley's Company eventually found his way into Chrisman's Arkansas Battalion by late September of '62. Some of the orders that effected Corley's command assignments during that period are in Hindman's Copybook of Telegraphs. But bare in mind that these orders changed daily as to who was assigned to whose command.
