James H. Campbell enlisted in Co. F, 27th Arkansas Infantry, at Locust Grove, Arkansas, on May 21, 1862; age 17. He was mustered into Confederate service with his company at Yellville, Arkansas, on June 13, 1862, for three years or the war; and was subsequently discharged as a non-conscript at Camp Culloden, Burrowville, Arkansas, on July 22, 1862.
