little rock confederate flag

When Confederate troops retreated from Little Rock, there is a story that they cut the Confederate flag that was flying over the garrison into small pieces, several soldiers each taking a piece, and intended to sew them back together again when they recaptured the city. I have a friend who has a rifle that has a piece of a flag (at least it is a piece of faded red cloth) which has been inletted into the stock, and covered with a piece of clear whiskey bottle glass. The report was that this was a piece of the Little Rock flag. Has anyone ever heard this story? I haven't seen the rifle in a while, but as I remember, the piece of cloth was inlet into the side of the buttstock, and the glass over it was ground somewhat round and about the size of a dime.
