In his diary, Ralph Leland Goodrich briefly describes his attendance at Governor Henry M. Rector's Inauguration Party held at the Governor's private residence on December 20, 1860. In a separate piece that he wrote for a northern newspaper, Goodrich elaborated on the event, leaving one with the impression that it was a drunken, bawdy affair, that spilled out into the streets.
