Who was Lavinia Pruet?
This question is for those of you historians with bloodhound research prowess. In his Little Rock diary, Ralph Leland Goodrich scribbled the following entry on 2 August 1866: "The other night the citizens mobbed Lavinia Pruet & destroyed a good deal of her property." What in blazes would prompt the citizens of Little Rock to rise up against a woman and destroy her property? Was she a prostitute? A Madame? And if she was, what made her different than any number of other known prostitutes who plied their trade in Little Rock during the 1860's? I have not been able to find anything about her in internet searches. Maybe someone in the Little Rock area can help me???
