Linda, Rick, what you say is correct. The Cook County "paupers cemetery" was where Dunning Avenue now is. Many victims of the great Chicago fire were also buried there, as well as some from the county hospital. The site was largely forgotten and when a developer came in to build a shopping mall, the land record of the cemetery somehow got "lost" in the file (that happens a lot in Chicago, when there's money involved) so they got the permit to build.
