Robert Selph Henry in his 1944 book,"First With the Most" mistakenly confuses E.W.Gantt with his brother Lt.Colonel George Gantt of the 9th Battalion Tennessee Cavalry at Ft.Donelson.Both were from Maury County,Tennessee.

Apparently CSA Brigadier General Gantt had a change of heart after Island No.10 and before the end of 1863 was active in the unionist movement in Arkansas, helping organize a new state government under President Lincoln's "ten percent" proclamation of Dec.8,1863.Thomas S Staples,"Reconstruction in Arkansas" (New York,1923).

I have a September 16,1861 Confederate Arkansas War Bond issued to E.W.Gantt if you would like a copy.
