Re: Wiley J Myers, 1 AR Mounted Rifles

Wiley enlisted 10 Nov 1861 in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. He received a slight gunshot wound in the thigh during the Battle of Murfreesboro on 31 Dec 1862, and entered St. Mary’s hospital in Dalton, GA, on 06 Jan 63. He was on a 30-day furlough at Chattanooga beginning 20 Feb 1863. I found no reference to a date of discharge. CSR gives his name as both Wiley J. and William J. I searched the 1860 Yell County census for a William J, but the only William Myers listed was Wiley’s brother, and his middle initial was “O.” Brother William fought for the Union. Wiley did survive the war, as evidenced by his appearance in the 1870 census for Ward TWP, Yell County, Arkansas.
