Columbus Quincy Woodruff, born abt. 1835 in Bibb County, AL, son of Samuel and Hannah (Lavelle) Woodruff. After his parents died, father in 1837 and mother in 1847, he came under the care of his brother-in-law, Felix Shropshire. Columbus married 12 Apr 1859 in Ashley County, Arkansas, to Rachael Drennan, daughter of Shadrack Deale and Mary Minerva (Hill) Drennan, and they appear in the 1860 Census for Extra TWP, Ashley County. It is probable that Columbus and Rachel followed her parents to Texas after 1860. Shadrack and family appear in the 1860 Census for Precinct 7, Robertson County, Texas. Columbus enlisted in Johnson’s Spy Company17 Mar 1862 at McKinney, Collins County, Texas, enrolled by Captain Alfred Johnson for twelve months. He was paroled 06 Jul 1865. Columbus survived the war as evidenced by the birth of son Thomas in 1867 in Texas. Columbus died before 1880, burial place unknown. Rachel appears as a widow in the 1880 Census for Robertson County, Texas. Thomas was in the household, age 13.
